BIM is Building Information Modelling, which is a methodology for the design and documentation of a building project. It is increasingly used in the industry and generally involves a 3d model of the project being prepared using advanced CAD software which contains data representing the physical objects and building components. These digital objects can contain data such as energy, structural preformance or product specification information. The model can be used to generate a multitude of graphical and non-graphical information for documenting the design.
ARM Architects LLP embraced 3D CAD technology for all their projects in 2000. In 2008, the practice adopted Revit, which is a major program in the BIM market, as their main CAD software.
