Loch Lomond House

Private House

Set within the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, this contemporary detached villa was designed to take full advantage of its exceptional setting, with uninterrupted views across the loch and surrounding landscape. The client's aspiration was to create a modern family home that celebrated its unique location while remaining sympathetic to the architectural character and natural beauty of the National Park.

The architectural response was driven by the site's outstanding views, leading to the principal living accommodation being positioned on the upper floor to maximise panoramic vistas across the loch. This inverted layout allows the main living and dining spaces to benefit from abundant natural light and a constantly changing landscape, while the lower level accommodates the remaining family spaces. At the heart of the home, a dramatic feature staircase anchors the cruciform plan, creating a central architectural focus and connecting the accommodation throughout. A secondary spiral staircase provides an elegant link between the principal living spaces, reinforcing the home's open and interconnected layout.

Extensive glazing frames the surrounding landscape, while generous terraces, landscaped gardens and two swimming pools extend the living experience outdoors, strengthening the relationship between the house and its remarkable setting. The material palette combines traditional Scottish materials, including natural slate, stone and lime harling, with contemporary detailing to create a refined architectural expression that sits comfortably within the National Park. High levels of insulation and energy-efficient construction ensure the home performs to modern standards while respecting its sensitive rural context. The result is a timeless contemporary home that combines striking architecture with an exceptional living environment, carefully designed to celebrate one of Scotland's most spectacular landscapes.
