Cathkin Braes Phase 7

Social Housing Project

The Cathkin Braes Phase 7 development comprises 22 contemporary houses and apartments for social housing on the site of a former school on Ardenglen Road, Castlemilk. Situated adjacent to Cathkin Braes Country Park, the project presented the opportunity to create a new residential neighbourhood that responds to both its urban setting and the exceptional natural landscape beyond.

The development is arranged as two blocks of three-storey apartments alongside two terraces of two-storey family homes, creating a balanced composition that reflects the scale of the surrounding residential area. The layout was carefully considered to maximise the site's relationship with the neighbouring country park, providing many of the homes with attractive views while creating well-defined streets and landscaped spaces that encourage a strong sense of place and community.

The architectural design adopts a contemporary yet robust approach, with simple building forms and carefully selected materials that complement the surrounding environment. Particular attention was given to creating bright, well-planned homes with generous levels of natural daylight and efficient internal layouts, ensuring comfortable living spaces for a wide range of household types.

The completed development successfully regenerates a redundant brownfield site, delivering high-quality, energy-efficient homes within a distinctive setting. By combining thoughtful urban design with a strong connection to the surrounding landscape, the scheme provides an attractive and sustainable residential environment that enhances both the local community and the wider Castlemilk area.
